Coaches before buses?

The administration at SWCS is gloating about the levy victory only to start to show their true colors right away. The administration hires coaches back immediately and practices that were never canceled only conducted in hiding come back instantly. So I would assume that the buses are running again and right on schedule but wait, are the buses running again? You would think that a district that cared about kids so much would have had those buses fueled and ready to go immediately just like sports. When you take your kids to school on Monday morning ask yourself why you are still driving your child or your child is still walking. I can tell you why, but it is better that you come to your own conclusion. I won't hold my breath waiting on those buses. I hope all you parents out there that voted yes realize that you got the shaft and shafted everyone else with you. Thank you, oh gullible ones, for falling to the pressure.
This is from the Citizens for SWCS website. Read it and see when the buses are to return. Oh wait they didnt get around to that plan. Too busy hiring a swimming coach.
( "If Issue 47 passes in November, the district will work as quickly as possible to restore both the extracurricular activities and busing that were eliminated after Issue 2 failed in August. Busing is a particular concern because of safety issues, and the vast majority, if not all of the busing services, will be restored with passage of Issue 47. The timing of these restorations has not yet been determined, but just as the district did in August, they’ll make contingency plans for November and present this at an upcoming board meeting.")

  1. I, for one, have appreciated your efforts to save the school system by reining in spending, although we No Voters have been reviled as selfish from the beginning. And yes of course, the parents are now being punished for not voting Yes, sooner. But I rather doubt most of them can understand that this is their punishment.

What's next - are we going to be paying teachers and admin to take time off to go their doctor's appointments? Perhaps free transportation to and from their workplace - to ensure their safety, too? Will they settle for school buses or will they require limosines? I can't wait to find out what they're lacking now?

  2. HAHA....EAT IT! GO LEVY!!!

  3. Come on think about it. how could they put buses back on the road as soon as the levy passed. they needed to hire drivers that your no vote made them lay off. all the drivers was not waiting to start like the coaches that was still in the distric. some of the drivers went out seeking jobs(unlike Terry Jones)and got them. you people always twist the words to make it look better for you and so you can say i told you so. get your facs right and grow up.

  4. I don't know which concerns me more, the fact that you don't understand the consequences of your no vote, or the fact that you have too much free time. Your no vote got rid of the bus drivers... which now have to be found, re-hired, and trained. Why would somebody want to drive the bus with the risk of getting laid off again? Secondly, why don't you proactively influence our government to make a change instead of making pointless youtube videos. 20 seconds of "where's the bus" makes you look like an ass, not make a change.

  5. Evidently the no voters can't find their computers.

  6. They would complain no matter what happened. If limos picked up every student in the district FREE of charge they would have something negative and hateful to say. I will have a hard time voting for any issue that supports seniors in the future though I will think about the handful of seniors that were supporters before I remember the HATEFUL Toothless wonder taking down all of our green ribbon. In all honesty it is a parents responsibility to get their kids to school not the district. That is what I do. You people scream for accountability but do not hold parents accountable for their involvement in their child's education. Poor test scores are a direct result of lack of parent involvement. Look at the individual schools across the district, their results and compare that to PTA membership. TJ that should give you something to do since you do not have a job and are not looking for one.

  7. To the where's the bus students tell your parents to buy you a car like many of us did or drive you to school. I have never had bus service and mine caught a ride with frientds. Got friends?

  8. From SWCS
"The South-Western City School District Transportation Department routing system is ranked as the most efficient of the largest school districts in the state. Our routing system is a three-tiered system in that each school bus transports elementary school students, intermediate and middle school students students each morning and afternoon. Some of our buses double-trip in the same tier. This makes our routing procedures even more efficient."

Did they lay off drivers? or just eliminate how many runs they made? Interesting question.

  9. Maybe rather than posting all this rant you should just move. Why stick around if it's so mortifying living in the SWCS district?

  10. This levy was NOT for the children. This levy was to put raises in the Administrators and Teachers pockets. Greed is such a sad situation.

  11. To the person above me: You're right. I mean, teachers are so overpaid as it is. They all drive red Ferraris and live in Multi-Million dollar homes. I would hate to give more money to the people that are educating the children. It's not like the children could benefit from a good education. They aren't going to need good paying jobs or money to start a family. So why give the kids a good, well-rounded education? Obviously you didn't have one, since you really think the levy was just for the administrators...

And since you probably didn't catch it, that response was full of sarcasm.

  12. You go dude or dudette. These people complain about their incomes or lack there of but refuse to fund education. Go figure!

  13. You people still ignor the fact that you were Blackmailed into voting for this levy. Blackmailers usually go to jail.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I was not blackmailed into anything. I have never voted against schools and will not in the future.

  15. Being a teacher in the district, I'll have to admit our school board did extort us.

  16. We have a new BOE coming in soon, for the most part. So the election wasn't a total failure for the "no" cause.

On the transportation issue. I don't work for the district but I have to assume that it's more difficult to rehire all the bus drivers needed for all the routs immediately. Many may have taken other jobs so to get new ones they have to interview, drug test, run background tests, etc.... before they can get the up and running and commit to routs? Just a thought.

I will also assume it's much easier to hire the coaches back since the majority of the coaches are teachers.

I'm not a pro SWCS BOE person but this type of rhetoric is what's wrong this community. It's hard to take you and the SWAT folks seriously when you seem to have unreasonable expectations and just look for anything and everything complain about.

  17. Man isn't it so easy to say you were a teacher when your post is anonymous...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Are the coaches teachers? I dont think so. You might want to check into that. What would you describe as rhetoric? A community that sets itself up as royalty over the rest of the district? How many businesses receive tax abatements that are not located in Grove City? People are not blind or stupid. People that dont agree with the district can read. The writing is on the wall. A district that is controlled by one small part that sets itself up as the rulers of the district. They dont like it very much when there is a lack of compliance from the rest of the district.

  19. The arrogant attitude and misuse of power by the current Board of Education is becoming and will be the downfall of all the current members. They will all eventually be voted out.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the person's statement just above me is correct. I believe that Terry Jones, Fred Vanorder, Sandi Davis and/or Cindy Legue should run for the next openings on the school board. I believe that they and the new school board members that were just voted in(other than Cathy Johnson) could and would negotiate honestly and fairly with the Administrators and Teachers Union.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think the post above me is hysterical!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I honestly doubt the people who run for the board of education are in it to give administrators and unions everything they want or that they are in it strictly for as much power as they can get. I don't personally know anyone on the SWCS board of education, but I do know several members of other school districts' boards of education. Every one of them became, and remains, a member because they want to help their school system be as good as possible. These people who spit out hatred at board members simply because they disagree with some things they have done or views they have are a huge part of the problem with this district. If you don't like someone on the board, vote for their opponent. There is no need to spit out personal attacks. That goes for both sides of this issue.

  23. Some people think problems can always be solved with money. I believe these people are the problem. Money has nothing to do with education or accountablility. True unemployment numbers are 17% and the district doesnt think that it should have any impact on them? It is time they share in the pain as well as the wealth. Good discussion. Thanks for commenting.

  24. where do you get your figure of 17%. Is that a fact or just some more swat lies?

  25. Being a parent of a Grove City High School student, I just received a disturbing letter from the Ohio Department of Education, as did other parents of SWCS district. The gest of the letter states that the district has been identified as needing "District Improvement". School Years 2006-2007, 2007-2008 & 2008-2009, Reading (Not Met), Mathematics (Not Met), Attendance Rate (Met) and Graduation Rate (Met).

    ReplyDelete
  26. Maybe these Administrators and Teachers should refuse to take their Raises. That way the levy money could really go to the students and the schools. But what are the chances of that?

    ReplyDelete
  27. 17% is the true mean unemployment figures. The Government changed the formula for figuring unemployment. If you do the math the way they did previous to 2001 including unemployed whose benefits have run out and underemployed. The figure would be a true 17% and growing. The continuation of unemployment benefits out to almost 2yrs is also a way to keep the number lower.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 17.5% heres a link

  29. I also see dead people. you people are nuts. how about running the numbers of the unemployed based on education. you refuse to fund schools but compalain about the unemployment. fact is the more education you have the more employable you are. just ask TJ.

  30. forgot to add thanks for commenting.

  31. No we don't mind funding the schools and children. What we do mind is funding the overpaid, over benefited, greedy, Administrators and Teachers, when so many in the private sector are unemployed, under employed (taking pay cuts)etc. Also our seniors that are on fixed incomes are not getting cost of living raises on their social security.

  32. SWAT is not "moving on" or "coming together" with pro levy extortionists . - Terry Jones

Thanks for that statement,Terry; there are a lot of voters behind you and SWAT, keep up the good work.

  35. What's up with the May ballot entry?

    ReplyDelete
  36. A small levy (1/4) the size would of been ok, but the size of this levy proves mismanagement. I alot believe that the levy was not fair because most of the (yes) voters do not own homes so it does not affect them. Higher paid teacher's with Master's degrees and with no patience to teach K-6 should not be teaching at this level. The federal testing results prove this. The kids are made to walk around like robots in the schools and the schools won't allow you to drop a child off 5 minutes before 8am or stay after (latch key program) forcing parents to get daycare ($500/month) because they don't want to bother with it so they can go home at 3pm. My 8 yr old attends so I know. I know teachers also, and bus drivers that race around the neighborhood at 35-40mph so they can all be at the school at 8am. Big saftey issue, yes. Should I take a video? Now $38 more a month. Question, can the people put a request/levy on the ballot for voters to reverse a levy?

    ReplyDelete
  37. The SW school district's bus drivers make more money plus free medical/dental/vision than my two friend's which have a CDL and drive semi hauling fuel to walmart and other gas stations. 17+ per/hr and they pay $200/month out of their check for not so good medical.

  38. If the new contract does not reduce the salary's eliminate position such as $72,000 salary for a 25 year old Child Psychologist to be at many school's I'll be so pissed. I'm looking to move anyway, out of here.

  39. PEOPLE READ THIS. In a effort to attain better federal testing scores SWCS has been holding back K through K-3 children so they will score better being a year older. The problem worsened when SWCS started 1/2 day attendence for k to save on busing fuel costs. I talk to many children to discover they have been held back, disgusting.

  40. According to our president in his State of the Union address the Federal Government is goimg to freeze Federal Spending. I suggest our School Board, Administrators and Teachers do the same. No pay raises,No additional spending, especially when there are so many out of work or only working part time and with pay cuts. If this School Board, Administrators and Teachers want to re-unite this community they will accept pay freezes and even pay cuts and benefit cuts for the next few years.

  42. I am a parent, a taxpayer and a yes voter in the district. I believe we passed the November levy so the students could get their sports and extra curricular activities back, not to give the administrators, teachers and employees raises.
